Equity and inclusion

Gypsy and Traveller communities continue to face systemic discrimination and exclusion at all levels of policy and decision making. We work with Gypsies and Travellers in London to exercise their rights and influence policy to bring about change in ways that matter to them.

Changing policy

We are the leading policy change organisation for Gypsies and Travellers in the capital, working with community members and decision-makers to ensure the voices of Gypsies and Travellers are heard.

When decision makers are committed to meaningful change, we support them to enact this using community-led advice and consultation. Where the will to change is lacking, we robustly challenge bad policy and lobby politicians and decision makers at local, regional and national levels.

See our Get Involved page to find out more about our work and how you can be a part of it.

Mobilising and campaigning

We support grassroots campaigners from the community to effect change on a local level – from campaigning for new sites to fighting against discrimination. We also mobilise Gypsy and Traveller communities to run broader campaigns on the issues that matter to them. You can read more about how to get involved in our campaigning work on our Get Involved page.

We all face racism every day. I am no different than any other mother who does the school run”

Challenging the law

In partnership with human rights lawyers, we support community members with legal challenges when they find their rights have been breached. This can include challenging evictions, injunctions against persons unknown and discriminatory policies.  You can read about some of our high-level legal challenges in the News section.

Researching and reporting

Our team produces high quality reports exposing the systemic discrimination faced by the community.

Here are some examples of our recent reports:

Challenging media coverage

We challenge negative and discriminatory media portrayals through anti-discrimination campaigns, promoting positive coverage and submitting official complaints. We partnered with Public Interest Research Centre and Leeds Gypsy and Traveller Exchange to examine the factors that perpetuate negative stereotyping of Gypsies and Travellers in the media in the Media that Moves initiative
